31 people, including five children, were killed in a Russian drone and missile attack on Ukraine's capital Kyiv on Thursday. This was announced by the country's president Volodymyr Zelenskyj after the figure was revised upwards following the completion of the rescue work.

Rescue workers have retrieved ten bodies from the rubble of an apartment building in western Kyiv, including a two-year-old child, writes the Ministry of Internal Affairs on Telegram.

A total of 159 people were injured in the attack, including 16 children. The attack was one of the deadliest on the capital since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 – and the deadliest in Kyiv so far this year.

A day of mourning has been declared in Kyiv on Friday to honor the victims of the attack.

Ukraine's president Volodymyr Zelenskyj has called the attacks "new, demonstrative murders” and urges his allies to bring about a “regime change” in Russia.

US President Donald Trump criticized Russia's actions in Ukraine on Thursday. He also hinted that new sanctions are on the way – something he had previously threatened with if Russia does not agree to a peace agreement by next week.

Russia – I think what they are doing is disgusting. I think it's disgusting, said Trump to journalists, according to AFP.

Meanwhile, the Russian attacks on Ukraine continue. Another person was killed in an attack on Zaporizhzhia in southeastern Ukraine on Friday morning.
