Sarah Sjöström: Not Competing in 2025

Sarah Sjöström does not think of quitting, but instead sets her sights on the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in four years. However, she does not intend to compete at all in 2025. In other words, it will be an extra long break. Which feels very nice, says the swimming star to Dagens Nyheter.

Besides her own competition on home ground in Stockholm, Sarah Sjöström has not competed since she won the two Olympic gold medals in Paris last summer. The competition break will be long. Sjöström will not compete during 2025 and will opt out of, among other things, the World Championship in Singapore this summer.

As it is now, I have no competitions planned. I will train, but at low intensity to then gradually increase. I believe that's the best way to hold out in the long run, says Sarah Sjöström to DN.

When the Olympic Games in Los Angeles take place, Sarah Sjöström will be 35 years old. She believes that the competition break is necessary for her body to cope with that effort.

During both the autumn of 2022 and 2023, I had it extremely calm with competitions, and my body responded very well to that. It was as if I came back stronger because I was fresh when I then started the hard training, says she to DN.
