Swedish Team Expands for Tokyo World Championship with New Sprint Nominees

The Swedish team for the athletics World Championship in Tokyo is growing. An additional 13 athletes, including sprinter Julia Henriksson and Henrik Larsson, are now pre-nominated, writes the Swedish Athletics Association in a press release.

Totalt är nu 30 svenska friidrottare förhandsnominerade, och enligt förbundskapten Kajsa Bergqvist kan det bli ett historiskt mästerskap ur svensk synvinkel.

”Möjligheten finns i alla fall att det kan bli den största truppen. Det beror bland annat på hur folk presterar fram tills fönstret stänger, men det jag helt säkert kan säga är att vi åker till Japan med en stor och riktigt stark trupp”, säger hon i pressmeddelandet.

I hemma-VM i Göteborg 1995 deltog 36 svenskar – flest i modern tid. I Budapest för två år sedan var siffran 32.

Kvalfönstret stänger den 24 augusti.

Kvinnor: Julia Henriksson (100 meter, 200 meter), Nora Lindahl (200 meter), Vera Sjöberg (1500 meter), Sarah Lahti (5 000 meter), Moa Granat (400 meter häck), Engla Nilsson (höjdhopp), Maja Åskag (tresteg), Emilia Sjöstrand (tresteg), Fanny Roos (kula), Axelina Johansson (kula), Sara Lennman (kula), Vanessa Kamga (diskus), Caisa-Marie Lindfors (diskus), Rebecka Hallerth (slägga).

Män: Henrik Larsson (100 meter), Andreas Kramer (800 meter), Samuel Pihlström (1 500 meter), Andreas Almgren 5 000 meter, 10 000 meter), Suldan Hassan (maraton), Samuel Tsegay (maraton), Ebba Tulu Chala (maraton), Vidar Johansson (3 000 meter hinder), Carl Bengtström (400 meter häck), Oskar Edlund (400 meter häck), Armand Duplantis (stavhopp), Thobias Montler (längdhopp), Wictor Pettersson (kula), Daniel Ståhl (diskus), Ragnar Carlsson (slägga). Perseus Karlström (20 kilometer gång, 35 kilometer gång).
