The weapon – called GLSDB (Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb) – is a further development of an airborne bomb from Boeing.
By mounting a motor on the weapon, it can instead be fired from the ground or ships with good precision, with a range of over 150 kilometers, writes Dagens industri.
When it was previously sent to Ukraine, its GPS guidance was allegedly disrupted by Russian military according to a high-ranking source at the American defense department.
But now the weapon is said to have been modified to withstand the disruptions. Tests have been conducted and according to Reuters, it is expected to be used within a few days.
Dagens industri has sought Saab for comments but the company refers to Boeing and American authorities for any questions.
