It has been clear for some time that the NHL team Arizona Coyotes will move to Salt Lake City in the state of Utah from next season. However, it is not yet clear what the new team will actually be called.
To come up with a name, fans were asked to vote on 20 different candidates – and now it has been narrowed down to six proposals. Over 520,000 fans voted online and the following six names were the most popular, according to nhl.com: Utah Blizzard, Utah Hockey Club (Utah HC), Utah Mammoth, Utah Outlaws, Utah Venom, and Utah Yeti.
A second voting round started on Thursday. However, the team will play its debut season in the NHL with a temporary jersey marked Utah pending the clarification of all branding.
It was officially confirmed in April that Arizona Coyotes will move to Salt Lake City.
Arizona Coyotes will be acquired by Ryan Smith at the time of the move, who already owns the NBA team Utah Jazz. The current owner, Alex Meruelo, was unable to ensure play at a different arena other than the underwhelming Mullett Arena for NHL.
