The expanded contribution, which covers over 180 million people, is being made through the aid agency Sida, which in a press release writes that the gap between humanitarian needs and financing is the largest in several years:

"To speak plainly, the financing gap means that millions of people affected by war and natural disasters are going without clean water, access to healthcare, or even a roof over their heads", says Jakob Wernerman, head of Sida's humanitarian aid.

The humanitarian crisis receiving the most support is the one in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where over 25 million people need life-saving assistance and protection from violence, according to Sida.
