The women had gathered for the day's work in agriculture on the outskirts of the city of Manbij in northern Syria. Then a bomb exploded, killing at least 15 and injuring approximately the same number, according to state media and the Syrian Human Rights Observatory (SOHR).
Almost all the victims of Monday morning's act were female farm workers.
Who is behind it is unclear, but Manbij is a violence-ridden city – in the area, Kurdish-led forces are fighting militias allied with the powerful neighboring country Turkey.
