Around 1.7 million children under the age of five are suffering from acute malnutrition, of which the situation for 466,000 is critical.
The country is one of the most vulnerable to climate change, according to the UN, and has been affected in recent years by both the worst drought in four decades and the worst flood of the century.
At the same time, 100,000 have been forced to flee the conflict between the jihadist group al-Shabaab, regional forces and the country's army. Healthcare has been affected by the conflict and cuts in humanitarian aid, and has been forced to cancel operations in 21 districts around the country.
Even before the US cut its aid, assistance to Somalia was underfunded, according to Somalia's government. The government has promised 700,000 dollars – equivalent to just over 6.7 million Swedish kronor – to support the population affected by the drought.
