The port in the city of Olja by the Caspian Sea is reported to be an important hub for the import of military equipment from Iran. The ship that was destroyed is said to have carried ammunition and components for Iranian Shahed drones, writes Ukrainian media.
The attack on the port in the Astrakhan region took place on Thursday. During the night towards Friday, a Russian oil refinery was also allegedly attacked by Ukraine, reports The Kyiv Independent.
The refinery in Syzran is one of the oil giant Rosneft's largest facilities and supplies the Russian military with fuel, according to Ukrainian reports.
Syzran, the third largest city in the Samara region, is located about 80 miles from Ukraine's border. Ukraine's military has not commented on the attack.
