Russia and Ukraine have on Thursday exchanged 84 prisoners of war each, the two countries report. At the same time, Ukraine is expanding its evacuation order while Russia is pushing on in Donetsk.

The prisoner exchange is the latest between the two countries and is made ahead of the summit between Russia's President Vladimir Putin and the US's counterpart Donald Trump in the American state of Alaska on Friday.

The United Arab Emirates has mediated the exchange, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. The released Russians will receive "psychological and medical support", the ministry adds.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj states that there are both soldiers and civilians among the Ukrainian exchanged prisoners, and that some of them have been held by Russia since 2014, 2016 and 2017. Also "defenders of Mariupol" are included in the exchange, according to Zelenskyj.

Ukraine ordered the evacuation of families with children from the city of Druzjkivka in the east on Thursday. Four more villages in the vicinity are being evacuated from the advance of the Russian forces.

On Tuesday, the Russians advanced up to a mile in a narrow section at the front line near the cities of Druzjkivka and Dobropillia in Donetsk, the largest advance in a day in Ukraine in over a year according to an analysis made by AFP based on data from the think tank ISW.
