Florida's Republican Governor Ron DeSantis is preparing to open another migrant detention center, this time at a state prison in northern Florida.

Around 1,300 illegal migrants will be accommodated at the facility, about seven miles north of Jacksonville. DeSantis motivates the defense with the fact that Donald Trump's administration needs more capacity to detain and deport more migrants.

–There is a need for this. I am sure it will be full, said DeSantis.

In the meantime, the future of the notorious migrant detention center Alligator Alcatraz in the marshlands of Everglades is being decided by a federal judge. Both environmental organizations and the Miccosukee people have sued the facility that opened last summer.
