The information about the money from governments in Europe comes from Chapin Fay, spokesperson for Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), in an interview with the British Channel 4.
On a question about how the operation is financed, he answers:
We have previously announced that we have received $30 million from the Trump administration in the US. We are also supported by countries that, due to political reasons and other reasons, have asked us not to disclose them, he says, and continues:
I can say as much as that it is about Western Europe. But again, they (the countries) have asked us to keep it secret, and that promise we keep, says Fay.
Dousa: "Not a single krona"
The statements should be seen in the light of the many question marks surrounding the financing of GHF. In addition to the millions from the Trump administration, very little is known about where the organization gets its money from. And the $30 million they received from the American government does not go far – according to Haaretz the operation costs at least $143 million per month.
However, there is currently no shortage of resources, according to Chapin Fay.
At present, we have financing in place until the end of the year, he tells Channel 4.
From Sweden, "not a single Swedish tax krona" has been paid out, according to Minister for Development Cooperation Benjamin Dousa.
"The government has been clear in its criticism of Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, whose operations are not in line with humanitarian principles. We also receive recurring horrific reports that people are being shot dead at GHF's distribution sites when they seek emergency aid", he writes in a statement to TT.
"The government's decisions on humanitarian financing are public and we do not keep them secret."
Extensive killing at distribution sites
The financing issue is just one of the controversies that have hit Gaza Humanitarian Foundation since the operation started at the end of May. Already from the start, aid-seeking Palestinians were shot dead in connection with the distribution sites that the organization runs, a phenomenon that has continued since then.
The UN said on Friday that at least 1,760 Palestinians have been killed since May 27 in connection with seeking emergency aid. Of the fatalities, 994 have been confirmed to have been killed near GHF's operations.
The death toll is up to August 13, and is an increase from July 31, when the UN's human rights agency OHCHR confirmed that at least 1,373 people had been killed in the search for food. The majority of them were shot dead by Israeli forces, according to the UN.
GHF has denied that there is killing in connection with their food distribution, but this is contradicted by the UN, a number of human rights organizations, witnesses, healthcare personnel, and American mercenaries who have worked at the distribution sites.
