Kristersson has, together with other European leaders and Canada's Prime Minister, participated in an extraordinary meeting on Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine. France's President Emmanuel Macron hosted the meeting.
The Prime Minister, who participated via link, calls it "uncertain times".
Regarding Ukraine, Europe and the world are currently at a crossroads. How the war against Ukraine ends will affect and shape security in Europe for generations to come, he says.
The meeting takes place against the backdrop of the US initiating talks with Russia about Ukraine, and an escalated rhetoric filled with lies from President Donald Trump.
"Peace through strength"
Kristersson comments on Trump's statement that Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyj is a "dictator" without the support of the people. An incorrect description, he notes.
Zelenskyj is democratically elected, says Kristersson.
One of the main points discussed at the meeting can be summarized as "peace through strength", where Ukraine is armed to be able to negotiate peace from a strong position.
It's the only way we can ensure peace in our part of the world. We will therefore continue to provide comprehensive support to Ukraine, says Kristersson.
Another thing that was discussed was that a peace must be sustainable over time.
Therefore, Ukraine must be involved in defining the terms of peace.
Faster buildup
The leaders also talked about increasing the pace of buildup.
More countries must now, with dramatic speed, build up their national defenses, says Kristersson.
According to Kristersson, European countries can "fully or partially" replace American support to Ukraine if the US were to back down.
It would be difficult, but is fully possible.
"Ready to support"
Opposition leader Magdalena Andersson (S) emphasizes that it is now important to stick together.
We Social Democrats are naturally ready to support the government, to cooperate for the Swedish people's security and safety, she says.
Andersson believes that the US's actions in recent times have increased uncertainty.
We want the government to quickly take the initiative for an updated security policy analysis. We also think that we should quickly see if we can bring forward some investments, if we can build up faster and if there's anything we can complement with.
