A moment after the finish in Holmenkollen, the message came that Ebba Andersson was disqualified. This after receiving a yellow card for violating the technical rules.
She already had one from earlier in the winter and now it has led to her being disqualified, says coach Ida Ingemarsdotter to Expressen.
"Different view"
Sweden lodged a protest, but it was rejected.
They claim that I committed a rule violation in classical cross-country skiing – that I took a shortcut at one point when I was standing and staggering outside the track. But we have a completely different view of that situation, says Andersson to Expressen.
You can clearly see on the video what happened. I still stand by the experience I have, says the Swede to Aftonbladet.
The race in Holmenkollen was otherwise about Therese Johaug getting her revenge on Sweden and Ebba Andersson. This after the comebacking Norwegian did not take a single gold at the World Championship in Trondheim.
It feels very good. I didn't have the seconds on my side in Trondheim, says the 36-year-old.
There, Johaug lost the skiathlon race on the finish line to Andersson and on the 10-kilometer classical, the Swede won with 1.3 seconds.
Sweden took home all six World Championship gold medals on the women's side and on the 50-kilometer – the Norwegian's big goal – Johaug had to settle for bronze behind gold winner Frida Karlsson.
In Holmenkollen, no one could challenge Johaug over 20 kilometers classical style, individual start.
It's one of the biggest races of the year. The atmosphere and history that is on this arena and especially for my part when I live down here and train here, says Johaug to Viaplay.
"Stolpe out"
The home favorite was 16.5 seconds ahead of Astrid Øyre Slind, Norway, at the finish and a whole 32 seconds ahead of Andersson, who came in as third. A podium spot she then lost. New third place went to Germany's Victoria Carl instead.
In the World Championship, I was very close to taking the victory, I had a little stolpe out. I was in form, but didn't manage to take the last step, says Johaug.
Frida Karlsson is skipping the competitions in Norway to recover for the World Cup finals in Finnish Lahtis next week. Jonna Sundling – who took three World Championship golds – had to withdraw due to a cold.
This year, there is no traditional 50-kilometer race in Holmenkollen. Instead, on Sunday, there will be a 10-kilometer freestyle.
