Sweden has taken the first medal at the European Championship U20 in Tampere. 19-year-old Karl Ottfalk ran home the silver on 5,000 meters after a chaotic race. Of course, there was a lot of pushing and shoving, says Ottfalk in SVT's broadcast.

The race developed into a tactical fight where Ottfalk was in third place in a tight position with two laps left.

Despite the congestion, the Swede finished strongly and was clocked at 14.14,78 – his best time for the season.

The victory went to the Belgian Willem Renders, while the Norwegian Magnus Øyen took the bronze.

Finally, I'm on the podium, it's really nice, says Ottfalk, who finished fourth at the last U20 European Championship.

Ottfalk received several bumps during the race and was seen stepping inside the curb on two occasions.

It's almost like a horror movie, a race that can be heaven and hell, exclaimed SVT's commentator Gustav Zetterlund.

Himself, Ottfalk took the situation calmly:

Of course, there was a lot of bumping and pushing. There are always people who want a lot and who want to have a position, but I stood up for myself well and was at the curb, he says.
