Many HVB homes do not check if the people they employ have been suspected or convicted of any crime, reports P4 Värmland.
The figures show that the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) has compiled.
84 of the 161 HVB homes that Ivo has so far reviewed in its annual supervision have neglected background checks when hiring new staff.
The deficiencies are of varying severity, but a large part does not do it in the way it is intended, says Anna-Karin Nyqvist, unit manager at Ivo.
This can involve HVB homes receiving digital registry extracts without verifying their authenticity or completely disregarding asking about criminal records before hiring new staff.
HVB homes are an institution within social services that receive young people for care or treatment. Many HVB homes are privately run.
