Khalil al-Hayya, a high-ranking official within Hamas' political branch, calls the attack "glorious" in a video statement on the anniversary.
He further states that it "has crushed the illusions that the enemy has created and convinced the world and the region of its supposed superiority and capacity".
Fighting is ongoing on the ground in Gaza, and at least 40 people have been killed on Sunday. The Israeli military, IDF, says in a statement that the city of Jabalia has been surrounded and operations are underway in the area.
Weapons cache found
According to Israel, intelligence suggests the "presence of terrorists and terrorist infrastructure in the Jabalia area /…/ as well as Hamas' attempts to rebuild its operational capacity in the area".
Israeli fighter jets have attacked what is claimed to be military targets in Jabalia to support the army. Weapons caches, as well as underground and other military infrastructure, have been hit, according to the IDF.
Gaza's civil defense reports that Jabalia was hit several times during the night to Sunday. At least 17 people have been killed, including nine children, according to Mahmud Bassal, spokesperson for the civil defense.
Rockets from Gaza
On Sunday, several rockets were fired from northern Gaza towards Israel. One was intercepted, while the others landed in open areas, according to the IDF.
Early on Sunday morning, at least 19 people were killed in an Israeli attack on a mosque in the city of Dayr al-Balah in central Gaza. The mosque was sheltering people, according to a statement from the nearby al-Aqsa Martyrs' Hospital.
Four more people were killed near the same city when a school was hit, according to the AP news agency. Refugees who had sought shelter were also present.
The Israeli military has claimed that both the school and the mosque were used by Hamas, without presenting any evidence for the claim.
New evacuation ordered
Israel has ordered a new evacuation in northern Gaza, where the country's military has repeatedly carried out large-scale air and ground operations during the war. Up to 300,000 people are estimated to remain in the area, despite difficult conditions and extensive destruction.
In total, nearly 42,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the start of the war, according to health authorities in Hamas-controlled Gaza.
