South Africa accused Israel at the end of last year of violating the UN's Genocide Convention during the offensive in Gaza, and submitted a lawsuit to the International Court of Justice ICJ. Since then, several countries have joined the process, including Spain, Turkey, Colombia, Libya, and Mexico.
Ireland is a strong supporter of the court's work and is deeply committed to international law and accountability, says Ireland's Foreign Minister Micheal Martin.
At the same time, the Irish parliament adopted a non-binding motion where they agreed that "genocide is being committed before our eyes by Israel in Gaza".
Ireland had previously stated that it would support the process as soon as South Africa had submitted a document with evidence for its claims, which it did on Monday.
