Hunter Biden, son of the USA's President Joe Biden, wants the trial against him to be retried, reports BBC. The President's son was previously convicted in June for firearms offences by a court in the state of Delaware.
On Monday, one of his lawyers submitted a request for the verdict to be declared invalid due to a technicality. According to the request, a higher instance that ruled on an appeal did not formally notify the lower instance – where the case was decided – of its decision, and therefore the verdict is to be considered invalid, according to the lawyer.
Hunter Biden – who is also charged with tax fraud in California – was found guilty of lying about his drug use when he purchased a pistol and was convicted on three counts. If the verdict stands, he risks 25 years in prison and millions of kronor in fines.
