Kadyrov was at a five-star hotel in Bodrum in Turkey when he went into the water to swim. Shortly thereafter, he began to lose consciousness, according to media reports.
People on the spot, including hotel staff, intervened when they saw that he was in distress and he was taken to a private clinic for care.
The Moscow-loyal and brutal Ramzan Kadyrov has since 2007 ruled the republic of Chechnya with an iron fist. Kadyrov has, among other things, banned alcohol and ordered women to wear a veil in public buildings. Not least, he has been accused of widespread and brutal persecution of homosexuals.
At the same time, he has strengthened the Kadyrov family's grip on power, including by giving his children various top jobs.
