Spoke with Trump

US President Donald Trump spoke with the countries' leaders on Saturday, and stated after that they both want an immediate ceasefire and peace.

The announcement of Monday's meeting in Malaysia comes after the countries once again shelled each other with artillery in the border area on Sunday.

A spokesperson for Cambodia's Ministry of Defense says, according to AFP, that Thailand initiated new artillery shelling at 04:50 on Sunday, local time. Thailand's army claims that Cambodian artillery started firing at 04.

Journalists from AFP have heard artillery fire in the Cambodian city of Samraong, about two miles from the border.

34 killed

According to authorities in both countries, a total of 34 people have been killed. Soldiers are among the fatalities, but the majority are said to be civilians. Over 200,000 people have been forced to flee from the border regions.

Sporadic violent incidents have occurred over the past 15 years, but the recent fighting is the bloodiest in over a decade. This year, the relationship between the countries has deteriorated significantly since May, when a Cambodian soldier was shot dead at the border.
