Israel Begins Humanitarian Pauses in Gaza Conflict

During Sunday, "humanitarian pauses" in the fighting in densely populated areas of Gaza will begin, according to Israel's military (IDF). At the same time, it is reported that aid deliveries by air have resumed and according to state-run Egyptian media, trucks with emergency aid have crossed the border.

The so-called humanitarian pauses will apply indefinitely every day, from 10 am to 8 pm in the areas of Al-Mawasi, Deir al-Balah and Gaza City, the military writes in social media.

At the same time, they have emphasized that "combat operations have not ceased" in Gaza against terrorist-stamped Hamas.

The IDF also states that humanitarian corridors are being established to enable safe transport for convoys from the UN and other aid organizations. Trucks with emergency aid have also begun driving towards Gaza via the border crossing in Rafah, reports al-Qahira, which is linked to the Egyptian state.

Airborne broadcasting

A first aid broadcast via air to Gaza is also said to have been carried out.

"IDF just released a broadcast of humanitarian aid from the air as part of the ongoing efforts to allow and facilitate the entry of aid into the Gaza Strip", the military wrote in social media during the night.

The broadcast contained seven packages with flour, sugar and canned goods, writes AFP. It is the first time during the ongoing war that Israel delivers aid via air, notes the newspaper The Times of Israel. When it has occurred before, other countries have been responsible for the efforts.

Trucks from Egypt

The airborne aid broadcasts are taking place according to Israel in collaboration with aid organizations.

Egyptian state-owned Al-Qahera News writes on X on Sunday morning that trucks have entered the Gaza Strip through the border crossing in Rafah.

Several other countries, including Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom, have also stated that they want to assist with aid broadcasts.

Releasing emergency aid from the air has been criticized as expensive, ineffective and even dangerous by, among others, the UN's aid agency for Palestinian refugees, Unrwa.

Critical starvation levels

Experts and aid organizations have for several months warned that starvation in the region is near critical levels.

At the same time, hundreds of Palestinians have been killed in connection with the distribution of emergency aid at the Israeli-American organization Gaza Humanitarian Foundations (GHF) facilities. GHF took over the responsibility in the spring after a more than two-month-long Israeli total blockade of aid.
