Henrik Stenson is forced to leave the LIV tour after a disastrous season where he finished in 49th place out of the controversial golf tour's 61 players. Only 48 are guaranteed to play even next year.

A single stroke decided in Sunday's competition. If Stenson had made a birdie on the last hole, he would have gotten a ticket to the next season, but the 49-year-old finished with a par.

The LIV tour was started in 2021 by Saudi Arabia's state investment fund. The country's investment in golf, and sports in general, has been described as "sportswashing".

Stenson himself has said that he chose the LIV tour partly because of the money. The British The Times reported that the Swede received half a billion kronor just to start on the tour.

Stenson is also automatically suspended from playing on the competing PGA tour for at least twelve months from his last LIV competition.
