The climate activist Greta Thunberg is on site together with 200 demonstrators from among others Extinction Rebellion outside Norway's largest refinery.

"We are here because there is no future in oil. Fossil fuels lead to death and destruction", says Greta Thunberg in a press release.

The demonstrators, who block roads and prevent cars from passing, evoke strong reactions. Storting representative Ove Tellvik is strongly critical of the action and emphasizes Norway's important role as a gas exporter to Europe. The demonstration is however considered legal so far.

Equinor Mongstad is the largest refinery in Norway with a production that largely consists of petrol, diesel and aviation fuel.
