A large fire southeast of Moscow has claimed at least 20 lives, according to Russian news agencies. The fire is said to have occurred in a weapons factory, but whether it is connected to the war in Ukraine is unclear.

It was on Friday that an explosion was reported at the Elastik factory in Rjazan. According to Ukrainian information, explosive substances and grenades are produced there, among other things.

In unverified videos posted on social media, smoke clouds are seen billowing from the factory. The fire that the explosion gave rise to seems to have raged for several days. On Monday, the regime-loyal Russian news agency Ria reports that 20 people have been found dead, and over 130 injured.

Ria does not mention Ukraine in its reporting on the incident, but writes that a criminal investigation has been initiated into what lies behind it.
