The meeting comes as a follow-up, just days after the President of the USA met his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

During the day, Trump and Zelenskyj are expected to first meet together with their delegations, before a larger group meeting begins with the other European leaders who have traveled to Washington, according to CNN. Zelenskyj wrote on X, early on Monday morning Swedish time, that he was on site in the USA's capital.

The leaders are expected to, among other things, discuss future security guarantees for Ukraine. During the meeting in Alaska, Trump is said to have proposed a guarantee inspired by NATO's Article 5, which would allow Ukraine to receive help from its allies, including the USA, if the country is attacked by Russia again.

They are also expected to talk about Russia's demands for land cessions, where Putin, according to the USA's special envoy Steve Witkoff, has made some concessions. The details are not disclosed, but he suggests that the Kremlin may now consider land cessions along the current front line rather than the administrative borders in some of the regions Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizizja, Cherson, and the Crimean peninsula.

Among the other European leaders traveling to Washington are the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, France's President Emmanuel Macron, Germany's Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, NATO's Secretary-General Mark Rutte, and Finland's President Alexander Stubb.

This is the first time Zelenskyj has visited the White House since the failed meeting in February, when the USA's Vice President JD Vance accused the Ukrainian president of being ungrateful to the USA.

At 8:15 pm, it's time for Trump to greet the other European leaders, including Emmanuel Macron from France and Alexander Stubb from Finland.
