Around the country, 132 weather stations also recorded record temperatures for July, according to the department.
The heat wave has Turkey in a tight grip, and fires are being fought in several regions. In the northern province of Karabük, the rescue service has been fighting for four days to extinguish a fire that has forced several residents to evacuate.
On Wednesday, eleven people died near Eskisehir, about 20 miles southwest of Ankara, when they were fighting a forest fire, according to local authorities.
