The number of new registrations of fully electric vehicles in Germany landed at over 380,000 last year, according to statistics from the German transport authority KBA. This is fewer than in the United Kingdom, where over 381,000 vehicles were registered.
In Germany, the sales of electric vehicles have decreased significantly since purchase incentives were removed at the end of 2023, which has led to decreased demand.
In the United Kingdom, the share of battery-powered cars sold has increased in recent months, but despite this, demand for electric cars is low among private individuals. Only one in ten Brits who bought a car for themselves chose an electric vehicle in 2024. The increase comes mainly from companies and vehicles driven by professional drivers.
