The fire at LKAB's mining facility in Svappavaara has been extinguished, the police report.
The roof of a pellet plant above ground caught fire just before 6 pm on Friday. The initial information was scarce, but the personnel were evacuated according to local media.
All personnel are safe, which is a huge relief. No one has been exposed to smoke, says Per Juntti, communicator at LKAB, to TT.
At 7:30 pm, the police wrote on their website that the fire had been extinguished.
The rescue service is working on a follow-up check to ensure that there is no risk of the fire flaring up again, says Juntti.
It is unclear to what extent the building has been damaged.
