A woman in her 40s is dead after being run over at Slottsbacken in Gamla stan in Stockholm, according to the police. Another person is seriously injured. The driver is arrested, suspected of among other things causing another person's death.

The incident occurred at 16.30 on Saturday.

Two people were taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a driver. At 22.00, the police announced that one person, a woman in her 40s, had died.

We do not currently see that this would be any connection to terror or anything else. Then we do not know what has happened, but there is nothing at present that suggests it would be intentional, but we will see, said the police's press spokesperson Mats Eriksson earlier to TT.

The detained driver is suspected of causing another person's death, serious bodily injury and serious negligence in traffic.

The car has been seized for examination.
