For the third month in a row, inflation increased in the euro area in December, according to new figures from Eurostat. This time, inflation stood at 2.4 percent on an annual basis, compared to 2.2 in November. Inflation also rose in October, compared to a year-low of 1.7 percent in September.
Compared to earlier in the autumn, energy prices also increased in December.
At the national level, Croatia now has the highest inflation rate at 4.5 percent, followed by Belgium at 4.4 percent and Estonia at 4.1. The heavyweights Germany and France stood at 2.8 and 1.8 percent, respectively, in December, according to Eurostat.
