A doctor risks imprisonment after having accessed 40 patients' medical records without relevance to their own work tasks. At the same time, 24 affected patients are demanding compensation from the doctor, totaling 200,000 kronor, reports Hallandsposten.
The doctor has explained their actions by stating that they wanted to know if colleagues had written anything unfavorable about them in the medical records. The actions were revealed in a routine check and the doctor was dismissed.
The doctor has now been charged with data intrusion.
It is my assessment that the doctor should be held accountable for these crimes and that the penalty should be at a prison level. Now it is up to the district court to determine if the evidence is sufficient, says prosecutor Caroline Nilsson to the newspaper.
