Prosecutor Seeks Harsher Sentence for Nytorgsmannen in Appeal

The Nytorgs man was sentenced for rape of a 17-year-old girl – now he wants to be acquitted from the judgment that Lunds district court established earlier in the summer. At the same time, the prosecutor is applying for him to be sentenced for more serious crimes and longer punishment.

In June, the so-called Nytorgsmannen was convicted of a rape and several sexual assaults in Lund District Court. The sentence was five years in prison.

On Friday, it became clear that both his defense attorney Carl-Henric Ringblom and prosecutor Anders Stridh are appealing the verdict.

Instead of rape, Stridh wants Nytorgsmannen to be convicted of gross rape of the 17-year-old girl he assaulted in Skåne last year. The girl supports this, as stated in the appeal from her representative.

The prosecutor has previously argued that the crime should be considered gross, since the convicted person mixed narcotics and medication in alcohol, which he gave the girl before the rape occurred. He therefore wants to see Nytorgsmannen sentenced to a longer prison sentence.

"The crime should be assessed as gross since the perpetrator has shown particular ruthlessness or brutality and with regard to the plaintiff's young age", the appeal states.

In the district court, Nytorgsmannen was sentenced to pay 270,000 kronor in damages to the girl, but she wants to see the court of appeal change it to 320,000 kronor. This is for the pain, discomfort and violation she was subjected to.

Nytorgsmannen himself wants to be acquitted of the rape conviction, as he denies the act, and wants to see a change in the prison sentence. He is also appealing the damages that the 17-year-old is claiming.

The main hearing will take place no later than August 14 in the Court of Appeal for Blekinge and Skåne.
