The Swedish Armed Forces receive clearance for more flights with Jas 39E Gripen at Malmen in Linköping. From initially having a limit of 290 flights, the Defence Inspector for Health and Environment (FIHM) has approved 1,000 flights this year and 1,370 from next year, reports Corren.
The total number of flights of 3,000 remains unchanged, but over time there will be fewer with C/D and more with Gripen E.
Gripen E is slightly noisier than its predecessors and also has a longer takeoff distance, which means that the starting point is moved 400 meters.
This means that around 45 houses can be exposed to so much noise that the Swedish Armed Forces are required to soundproof them. However, this will only happen if the noise limit is exceeded 700 times per year, says wing commander Niklas Blomberg to Corren.
