On two occasions, a mother in her 50s has hit her daughter in the back with a hammer. Now she is sentenced to two years and three months in prison for aggravated assault by the Skaraborg District Court.
The daughter is autistic and has an intellectual disability. During the interrogation, the girl has been able to tell how her mother hit her with the hammer on two separate occasions. The mother claims that she acted in self-defense and that the blows were an accident. The court considers the mother's explanations as "incredible".
The court finds that the mother "has shown such recklessness that the crime should be assessed as aggravated assault" and sentences her to prison. She must also pay damages to the girl of over 50,000 kronor.
The assault was discovered at the special upper secondary school where the girl attended when the staff saw bruises on her body. The staff at the school then alerted social services and the police.
