Komleva worked for Navalny's party before it was stamped and banned as "extremist" in 2021, according to the independent media channel Mediazona. But according to Russian law, individuals can be convicted of cooperating with Navalny's organizations even though it happened before the law was enacted.
She was also convicted of criticizing the Russian army when she reported on Russia's offensive in Ukraine and anti-government protests for the independent RusNews.
The court writes in a statement that they "found that the defendant participated in activities within an extremist group" and "deliberately spread false information about the actions of the armed forces".
Komleva denies all allegations.
