Karl-Heinz moved first into eastern Svealand and Gotland, which in some places received up to 110 millimeters of rain. The rescue service has been alerted to several houses that have been affected by water damage after the downpour and trees that have fallen over roads, reports Helagotland.

Now the bad weather has slowly begun to move north. Yellow warnings have been issued for Östergötland, Värmland, Närke, Dalarna, large parts of Västerbotten and the southernmost part of inner Norrbotten.

An orange warning has been issued for the southern Norrland coastal area.

Landslides are a possible consequence if such large amounts of rain come in a short time. We have seen this before in connection with severe weather, for example, the Gävle rain in August 2021. Then we saw some landslides of roads and embankments, says Max Schildt, duty meteorologist at SMHI.

Risk of getting stuck

Western Sweden was also affected. During Tuesday afternoon, heavy rain fell in Uddevalla, and local media report, among other things, about flooding in the central parts of the city and that water is leaking into a grocery store.

Max Schildt advises property owners to clear gutters and move sensitive objects away from basements. He also wants to warn drivers against driving into water collections.

It can be dangerous and then you can get stuck. It's not fun to sit on the car roof for hours in the rain.

Sun on Thursday

Large amounts of water have led to flooding and affected traffic in the Stockholm area. However, the Swedish Transport Administration states that it is possible to get through the entire Stockholm, but among other things, in Nacka, Järfälla, and Vaxholm, trees have fallen over roads, according to Sveriges Radio P4. Also, the E4 in the direction of Uppsala was affected when heavy water collections closed lanes.

Air traffic has also been affected by the weather. The thunderstorm forced a plane from Cyprus to land at Skavsta instead of Arlanda.

The rain is expected to decrease in intensity and move away from the Norrland coastal area and Dalarna during the night towards Wednesday.

Thursday seems to offer some sun in northeastern Norrland, but over southern Sweden, a new rain area is moving in from the southeast on Friday.

SMHI has three levels of weather warnings: Yellow warning: Consequences for society, some risks for the public. Orange warning: Serious consequences for society, danger for the public. Red warning: Very serious consequences for society, great danger for the public.
