Just like Sweden, Norway lowered taxes on gasoline and diesel by 4.50 and 4.70 kronor per litre, respectively, shortly after the Iran-US war caused energy prices to skyrocket this spring.
But now the temporary price reduction is expiring. From September 1, the old fees will be restored, meaning diesel will now cost a maximum of just over 29 Norwegian kronor (roughly the same in Swedish kronor). Gasoline will rise to a maximum of around 27.50 kronor. But in Norway, the difference between gas stations is often several kronor.
The result was queues at gas stations around Norway on Monday.
In Sweden, all fossil fuel sales will disappear from December 1 this year, unless politicians decide otherwise before then.
