Canada is introducing tariffs at the same level as the American ones, announced Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday and urged the people to choose Canadian products.
From the country's most populous province Ontario came the news that they are terminating the contract – worth approximately 750 million kronor – with Elon Musk's satellite network Starlink as a protest against Donald Trump's tariff decision.
Ontario does not do business with people who have made it their mission to destroy our economy, says Governor Doug Ford according to the public service company CBC.
He had already announced that the province will stop selling US-made alcohol and across Canada, stores have started promoting products made in the country.
Trump's states
A long line of other provinces are following Ontario's decision. British Colombia, however, is choosing a different path – the province is only stopping alcohol from states with governors from Trump's Republican Party.
We have targeted red (Republican) states, because, to be honest, Donald Trump does not care about democrat-governed states, says Ravi Kahlon, British Columbia's responsible for responding to trade tariffs, to CBC, and continues:
We want to make sure we do not punish states that have nothing to do with this
"Canadian is my choice"
Around the country, consumers are now choosing to boycott American products, report several Canadian media outlets.
Everything marked as Canadian will be my choice from now on, says a person shopping in a grocery store in Ottawa to CBC.
He adds that he is working on a list of American products to boycott.
