USA's new ambassador to Sweden, Christine Toretti, is described as a driven businesswoman with solid experience of political assignments for the Republicans. On Thursday she was sworn in at a ceremony in the Oval Office.

It will go gallantly, congratulated Trump when he shook hands with Toretti after she was sworn in with her hand on the bible by Vice President JD Vance.

68-year-old Christine Toretti has a long background as one of the few female executives in the male-dominated energy industry.

In 1990, she took over the CEO position in her father's oil and gas company S W Jack Drilling, which she led until 2010. After that, she has, among other things, worked in the financial sector, most recently as vice chairman of the board for the bank S&T Bancorp.

At the same time, Toretti has driven various initiatives to promote female participation in business and politics, according to the White House.

She has also had assignments for the Republican Party, most recently as chairman of the national committee's (Republican National Committee) budget committee.

During his previous term, Trump wanted to make Toretti an ambassador to Malta, but it was not approved by the then Democrat-led Senate.
