I think it's extremely serious that they want digital communication not to bear the same responsibility as those who commit a crime in a newspaper, says Brazil's President Lula da Silva.

Last year, the media platform X was stopped in Brazil after a dispute between Judge Alexandre de Moraes and X-owner Elon Musk about freedom of speech, right-wing extremist accounts, and incorrect information.

Brazil is one of the countries whose population, of over 216 million people, spends the most time on the internet – and therefore an extremely important market for tech companies, according to El País.

In the USA, fact-checking on Facebook and Instagram will end in March, but in the EU, laws will stop it, at least in the short term. According to Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the decision, which was announced on Tuesday, has to do with freedom of speech.
