In a statement from the White House, it is stated that Biden, who has three weeks left as president, is proud to support Ukrainians who are defending "their independence and their freedom from Russian aggression" with a direct military package worth 2.5 billion dollars.
It has been speculated that the package would include the Hawk air defense system, Stinger robots, and artillery grenades.
In the statement, the aid is not specified exactly, it is stated that the Defense Department is delivering hundreds of thousands of artillery grenades, thousands of rockets, and hundreds of armored vehicles to strengthen Ukraine ahead of winter.
Additionally, over 1.2 billion dollars will go through a mechanism where the military material is procured from the US to Ukraine from the defense industry or its partners.
The remaining funds will go in direct budget support from the American to the Ukrainian government, according to the Finance Department in Washington.
