The New York Stock Exchange's leading index rose on Friday in line with the major stock exchanges in Europe. Wall Street has thus closed on a plus for four of the last five weeks.
The broad S&P 500 index increased by 0.5 percent, while the Dow Jones industrial index and the technology-heavy Nasdaq composite index both rose by 0.7 percent.
Winners included several major technology companies, among them Oracle. The software company presented a long-term revenue forecast that was more positive than analysts had predicted. The stock rose a modest 0.4 percent, but has risen almost 14 percent since Monday.
On the other hand, aircraft manufacturer Boeing fell by 3.7 percent, after several thousand of the company's employees went on strike, dissatisfied with a preliminary wage agreement.
Counting the entire past week, the S&P 500 rose by 4.0 percent, the Dow Jones by 2.6 percent, and the Nasdaq by 6.0 percent.
