Independent Russian Mediazona and Russian BBC have, during the war, examined documents and open sources, and have thus been able to confirm the names of Russian soldiers who have died since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

Currently, the names of 79,819 fallen Russian soldiers have been confirmed, according to the latest update from last Friday. This meant nearly 2,700 new names added to the list since the previous update, two weeks ago.

The deaths in the survey are those that have been established with the help of obituaries, reports in local media, posts on social media, and information from local authorities. In addition, there are deaths that have not been made public or have been concealed or gone under the radar.

According to estimates, in military contexts, it is reasonable to assume that the actual number of dead is roughly twice as high as the available statistics suggest.
