The teams will allow them to sign one-year contracts to hold non-combat roles if they pass the medical checks, according to a statement on the parliament's website.

"A large number of citizens who are 60 years and older have expressed a strong desire to voluntarily join the country's defense", it says.

Ukraine has had difficulty finding recruits for the country's defense forces and has taken several initiatives to attract inhabitants to the armed forces, including one-year contracts and economic benefits for people between the ages of 18-24.

The country also lowered the mobilization age from 27 to 25 years last year.
