India's Home Minister Amit Shah says to the country's parliament that the men have been killed by the military near the city of Srinagar, reports BBC. The Indian army states that the men were killed in a firefight in a mountainous area in Dachigam national park, three miles from Srinagar.
The Home Minister states that the perpetrators have been identified as Pakistani citizens.
In the attack in April, 26 people, mainly Hindu tourists, were killed by armed men near the popular tourist resort Pahalgam in Indian Kashmir.
India accused Pakistan of supporting militia groups involved in the attack, which Islamabad denied. The attack led to India carrying out a series of air and missile attacks against Pakistan and the Pakistani part of Kashmir. Pakistan responded with similar attacks against Indian targets.
A dozen people on both sides were killed in the battles before the two nuclear nations could agree on a ceasefire in May.
