The Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas says in a speech in the Turkish parliament that he will visit the war-torn Gaza Strip, which is ruled by the rival Hamas.
I have decided to travel to Gaza with other brothers from the Palestinian leadership, he says.
I will do it even if it means risking my life.
Abbas leads Fatah, which governs on the West Bank and has long been at odds with the Islamist movement Hamas, which rules in Gaza. In July, the rival Palestinian groups took a step towards a possible reconciliation during a meeting in China, where they reportedly agreed to form some kind of Palestinian unity government after the war.
Abbas says in his speech in Turkey that the Palestinians will not give up Gaza.
There can be no Palestinian state without Gaza. Our people will not give up, says Abbas.
