The Tokyo stock exchange started upwards on the first day of the trading week.
The Nikkei 225 index was up 0.3 percent, while the broader Topix index indicated a plus of 0.5 percent when investors took a lunch break.
The mood was also good in Shanghai, with the Shanghai composite index up 0.4 percent. In Shenzhen, the composite index was down 0.4 percent.
In Hong Kong, the stock exchanges are closed.
