In SEB's previous measurements, the Midsummer index has often been higher than food prices in general.
Between May 2024 and May 2025, the goods that SEB counts in a Midsummer plate have increased by 2.7 percent. During the same period, the total price increase was 5.2 percent for food in total.
The price of potatoes has increased by over 5 percent since last year, but according to SEB, potato prices have nonetheless fallen by 14 percent since the peak in August 2024.
Fresh potatoes were around 14 kronor per kilo over the weekend and that's a good sign. Even the herring and eggs have come down in price.
Fresh berries are one of the foods that have become cheaper compared to May last year, but for strawberries, prices seem to be getting higher due to the late season, according to SEB.
Since 2019, the prices of Midsummer food have increased by 35 percent, which is in line with the general price trend for food, according to SEB.
