Unexpectedly gloomy among German investors

The outlook for the German economy is deteriorating sharply, according to German investors and analysts.

The Zew index, a monthly survey, falls to 19.2 – the lowest level since January. This can be compared to 41.8 in July. Analysts had on average expected the Zew index to fall to 34.0.

A sub-index focusing on the view of the current situation fell to minus 77.3 in August from minus 68.9 in July. Here, expectations were at minus 74.5.
